Don't worry Mom I didn't actually get it, but this is what it would look like... Heh heh... pretty big but I figured if you don't have to pay for it you might as well go all the way.
It's my fantasy tattoo. This is actually a combination of two tattoo ideas I've had. The acorn symbolizes our potential to be greater than we are and the beetle symbolizes those aspects of our life that are preprogrammed and are not the result of conscious decision-making.

This was a very difficult pose for me. I had a heck of a time working out the foreshortening of the legs and arm. The model was actually very tall and slim but this pose makes her look shorter. In the end I think it has its good and bad parts but the challenge was worth the experience.
This is a CD booklet for a singer named Araxi Kitsinian. I was fortunate enough to meet her and listen to her sing. She is trained as an Opera singer so her voice is incredibly powerful... It just washes over you. It is a very physical experience. I wanted to show the audience being illuminated by her voice. This would fold up and fit inside a jewel case. The right portion would be the cover.
This is the inside image for Araxi's CD booklet. The song list for this CD would include Opera, Country Western, Jazz, and Cabaret. I wanted to hint at all these genres in this image. She also mentioned that she was just as happy singing for her friends in her living room as she was on stage. Since this album would be marketed to a 20 to 30 year old audience I thought it would be cool to put her in a hip cocktail party scene. Plus I thought the contrast of the stage scene on the front cover and the casual scene inside would represent her quirky personality and eclectic song selection.
This was a very long pose. I have to be honest and say it was a little difficult to keep my attention that long. I am so used to quick studies. I got half way through this sitting and didn't really know where to go with it... I wish I had spent a little more time planning where I wanted to go before I started... Now that I've had the experience I'm sure next time I will be ready to use the time a little more effectively.
I was really excited to draw someone with dreadlocks. They are so cool... they have such an interesting shape and weight. They are like braids only more bad ass.
This is a value study for a proposed magazine ad for a pharmaceutical company. The ad would appear in an industry magazine for doctors. A page of text describing how a new drug could be used to treat this disorder would accompany it.
I probably won't do a finished painting, as the project has been canceled.

Our model didn't show today so my classmate Georgia and I posed for each other. It's hard to draw a portrait of someone you know. For some reason when I know they are going to see it I tend to focus on the details too soon. I had to restart three times before I got all her features in the right place. I had to force myself to hold off on the details so I could get her proportions right. In the end it turned out to be a pretty good likeness.

This is a picture book page I made. It allows you to move a window up and down on the page to reveal an image depicting my first memory. In order to give you online folks the full experience I have recreated the effect in flash. Click here to reveal my first memory! The window will follow your curser.
