The same model came in today so we had her take the same pose as last time. I used the extra 40 minutes to fix up the image a little. It still has it's good parts and bad parts but I think it's something... you know... it's not nothing.
I'm pretty happy with the line quality in this image... I didn't realize it when I was drawing it but now that I step back, her pose reminds me of those old 1950s "pin-up" girls.
Just some hand studies. I want to do at least 50 of these by the end of the semester. I know I've been posting a lot of figure work lately. I promise I am working on more interesting Illustration stuff. They just take a little longer to complete and post. Expect them soon.
I was trying a new technique today... It seems that if you smudge the brown color I've been using it looks much more red... Anyway here is the drawing from Tuesday reworked a little... He kinda looks a little sunburned...
Just a little doodle from my sketchbook... I kinda like him so i thought I'd share him with you guys. This is a little different than my usual style but I like his charactor.
Terry was a great model. He had a great face and very defined muscles. I like some areas of this image more than others... but I think there are some good things happening. I might get a chance to work on this pose again in a couple days. I'll repost it if I make any improvements.
This guy had a great face... I really enjoyed drawing him. I think older men's faces work well with my drawing style because they have such great character lines. I'm pretty happy with the way this came out.
This is a sketch for an illustration meant to accompany a poem by Percy Bysshe Shelley. The idea was to link the Poem with events surrounding Hurricane Katrina. I'm not happy with the composition so I'm going to rearrange it before I do the final painting.
This model was really interesting. She always took these kind of contorted poses and at one point she spontaneously started singing this lovely melody. She was singing when I made this drawing. It was the best one I did all day!
