I liked this model. He had a great face and he brought props! I tried to be a little bolder with my colors and composition. I think I'm still being a little conservative but I feel like I benefit from close study of the face... even if the paintings are a little boring.
This is an editorial illustration for an article about a student and teacher at the Academy of Art who were expelled and dismissed from the school after the student wrote a violent short story. After reading it I thought, "What kind of citizens are we making if we are already censoring them while they are still in school! I mean... come on! The guy is in college... An ART COLLEGE for crying out loud!
Anyway... I'm really happy with this piece. I think the message reads well as an editorial and I had fun making it. By the way if the character above looks a little like me it's because I took a reference photo of myself for lighting and facial expression.
So... this is the last month of school... My roommate is moving out and my girlfriend is moving in... I have two papers, two final projects and my regular homework and job to deal with... needless to say ... I'm a little stressed. I thought it would be fun to express my anxiety in this self-portrait assignment.
This is a sketch drawn from a modle with slides of artwork projected onto her body. I like the way the lines and patterns come across while the form still stays recognizable.
I decided to try another self-portrait. I played around with color and background a little more this time. I think it gave this painting a little more life than the previous ones.
"Actuary tells Congress he was ordered to conceal data on prescription drug plan" This is a quick illustration I made to go with an article from the New York Times. The article was about The chief Medicare actuary, Richard Foster's claim that the White House's public estimate for the cost of prescription drug legislation was 25 to 50 percent higher than what was supported by the data he gave them , and that they kept this information from congress for six months. (Click here to read the article) Anyway... like I say it was a pretty quick job and I will probably fix some of the shading problems ... maybe I'll add some color...
