Where the heck did he come from!

I went to a wedding last week. It was fun. Everyone looked good. I looked good. Everyone I saw said I looked good... I thought... dang... I look good.. and then the photos came back. For some reason in photos my chin disappears and reappears a couple of times on my neck. My gut hangs out. My nose overtakes my face and I become this giant goof towering over everyone.

In my mind I am small. Slim, charming. Devastatingly handsome with an irresistible smile and hypnotic eyes. I also know kung fu...

Ok so maybe my self image is as exaggerated as my the way I see myself in photos... I guess in the end I'm probably just an average looking guy... which is working out pretty well... Maybe I shouldn't daydream so much...
This drawing was partially inspired by the creatures in my head.

New Posts coming soon!

Sorry I haven't posted in the last week. I've editing my portfolio for review at CCA! They accepted my portfolio on Monday, so I'm one step closer to being a student again! I'm also working on a redesign for the site. I was going to post a sneak peek at the artwork for the new design but my scanner is down. New drawings should be up within a couple of days.

Apprehension

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about story telling in art. Lately my drawings have seemed a little flat and just haven't been coming out right. Looking back I’ve realized that my best work always feels like it is telling a story. Ok, so maybe that should be a little more obvious to an illustrator, but as an artist, its easy to get caught up in the shape and form of a piece and forget to tell the story.

I've been drawing every day and looking into going back to art school. I'm sure this is the direction I want to be moving and I know I could be happy as a professional artist... but still I hope that I'm taking the right steps.

Out Walking

So, I've been having difficulty with a comic strip I am working. It involves a walk I took through Berkeley the other day. I keep getting caught up in details, like facial expressions, and the drawing ends up feeling over worked.
This is just a little sketch I did kinda absent mindedly while testing out some pens and ink I found buried in a box of forgotten art supplies. Anyway I like the simplicity of it and the kinda dreamy wandering feel it has.

Hey this is cool. This is a little sketch I did at work while waiting for the computer to process something. I wasn't really even looking, but I liked the way it looked. I think it might work for a little icon on a business card.

Let's try this againI decided to try and recreate my icon sketch a little cleaner and bigger so it can be resized easier.

Hmm... still not quite right... Yet another attempt... It still doesn't have the character of the first one. Maybe it was a mistake to enlarge it so much... well I'll keep trying... it's not bad though... definitely getting closer.
